In the distant past rugby union props were built like barrels with a brief to jog from scrum to scrum, occasionally get involved in a ruck and turn up at line-outs.
Sprinting was for the back line. Tackles were made only when an opposition player could not avoid them.
Now the big bookends are expected to do a lot more.
Force props have had plenty of challenges during pre-season: build scrummaging power, develop skills and increase the appetite for hard work to get them around the field at greater pace.
Tighthead Oliver Hoskins, heading into his third season at the Force, said the regime has had the lungs burning.
