Well, 2 Magners League games have been played so far.
We won won and lost one.
First home win in the ML
Ulster fought hard to lose their lead, but the team came out triumphant after winning a final penalty minutes before the end of the game. A good performance by the Ulstermen meant they led through much of the game, primarily from the boot of Niall O'Connor.
The lead disappeared through indiscipline, but a late penalty brought the team back into the lead and the partisan crowd made their joy heard across Belfast

and then there was Edinburgh, an obvious win for us, in fact NO ONE thought we'd lose.... and then again the Edinburgh team had other ideas...
A milestone too far
Ulster allowed a determined Edinburgh side to take command early on and control how the game was played. A poor first half for Ulster meant that we were trailing all the way, and despite a supreme effort in the 2nd half, the deficit was too much to bring back.
Ulster deserved more, but a stupid red card for Ryan Caldwell, with a malicious and unnecessary stamp left the ulstermen with too much to do, even with the extensive amount of extra time awarded during the match.

With all the disruption at Edinburgh that is a pretty amazing result for them, even if at "our" expense!

Anyhoooo, more updates.....
we lose,
we lose,
we draw,
we lose.....
in more detail, and in order;
Dragons 31 - 11 Ulster
Ulster performance not good enough
Ulster couldn't produce a good enough performance on Saturday to make a dent in the Dragons' armour. Too many mistakes and just poor baisc play left Ulster chasing the game the whole way, despite O'Conner taking the early lead with a penalty.
Poor discipline led to two more yellow cards for Ulster, who ended the game losing for the first time at Rodney Parade Tom Court scored Ulster's only try but too little too late.
Llanelli Scarlets 32 - 8 Ulster
Appalling Ulster keeps their deserved spot at the bottom
Ulster had flashes of brilliance, but nothing sustainable, and ended up giving away a bonus point to Scarlets this evening. Ulster defence was poor overall with missed tackles and narrow lines, leaving the Turks with gaps and yards of open space.
Despite a try from Tommy Bowe, Ulster never looked threatening, and are left wallowing at the bottom of the Magner's League, Irish internationals back on duty couldn't help the beleaguered side make a dent on the Welsh continued dominace in the league.
Leinster 16 - 16 Ulster
A rare result!!
Leinster dominated in the 1st half, Ollie le-Roux particularly driving ther forwards into an emphatic display. Leinster could have scored more tries than they did, and were unlucky to only be going in 6 nil up at half time.
Ulster must have had a blasting at half-time, and with the change of Humphreys for Wallace came out all guns blazing. Humphreys led from the front and took the game to Leinster, commanding the field and providing opportunites to attack from.
A Humphreys inspired attack led, supported by Cunningham, who passed to Trimble to score under the posts, a further penalty and drop goal secured a draw when Ulster looked nowhere near scoring. Leinster failed to capitualte on their 1st half dominance, and paid the price from a rejuvenated Ulster team, led by the main man; David Humphreys.
Glasgow 25 - 6 Ulster
A good try, but ultimately lost
Glasgow played the better rugby, and displayed better possession throughout to win by a comfotable margin. To be fair, Ulster did play some good rugby, but individual handling errors, and some indiscipline allowed Glasgow to have more go forward ball, and opportunities to score, Dan Parks scoring 20 points from the boot.
Ulster tried hard, and their forwards were more determined than last week, providing good strong ball for the backs, and making several good driving mauls, and attacking scrums, but the score was nevr forthcoming despite these efforts. The glasgow defense was just too much, and ulster were repelled time and again.
Humphreys kicking was poor tonight, and three of his restarts resulted in Glasgow scrums back where the kick was taken. Paddy wallace was brought on in the second, but in the centre to partner Trimble who in my view had a great game with lots of good running lines, defensive tackling and great support play.
actually Trimble was moved to the wing, where he disappeared into anonymity, despite being the Ulster player who had played the best all game.
Oh no!
Come on Ulster!

Just happy to be here
David Humphrey's again showing how it's done...maybe Ireland could have done with him at World Cup time? I know he's old but it was fashionable to have old blokes on the team at this world cup!!

Okkaaayyyyyy,
First round of the HEC over, and boy did we blow it. What a week it's been for the fans of Ulster rugby...
and then as everyone was feeling down in the dumps, and it couldn't get any worse...Fortress Ravenhill breached!
Ulster 14 Gloucester 32
Gloucester came to Ravenhill at the top of the English Premiership, and Ulster were given a lesson in rugby. 5 trys in the first half, had Ulster playing catch-up from the off.
Ulster tried valiantly to turn the tide with two tries before half-time from Matt McCullough and Paddy Wallace also finding a way through.
The rain poured down in the 2nd, but the scores never came. All the real action had already happened in the 1st. Ulster played well in the aftermath of the Gloucester onslaught, but even the introduction of Dr D 12 minutes from the end couldn't save Ulster.
Rory Best said.
"We wanted to start well tonight but it didnt really go that way"
"We haven't started well in games and when you give teams a 10-15 point headstart you don't have much chance," said Best.
"We sat back and waited to see what they had instead of showing them what we can do."
"We made a couple of silly mistakes and they capitalised on them - they scored three tries from 60 metres and from there it doesn't leave you with a chance against a team of Gloucester's calibre.
"There's no hiding place for us, we are bottom of the Magners League and we haven't made a good start in Europe.
"There's nothing we can do except front up on Monday and roll our sleeves up and get things back on track.
or really that should read.... PUSHED with a big RED HAND in his back...Mark McCall resigns
Ulster Rugby has confirmed this morning that Mark McCall has resigned from his post as Head Coach, with immediate effect.
McCall, has been under pressure following Ulster’s recent run of poor form ending last week in a 32-14 defeat to Gloucester in the opening round of the Heineken Cup at Ravenhill on Friday. He officially tendered his resignation yesterday evening to CEO Mike Ried, and Chairman Cecil Watson.
Speculation about McCall's departure had been rife since his side lost 32-14 at home to Gloucester in Friday night's opening Heineken Cup Pool game.
The coach failed to attend a post-match media conference after his side's fifth competitive defeat in seven matches.
In a statement, Mark McCall said that he had been privileged to have coached the province that he had played for;
“Over the last three and a half years it has been an absolute privilege for me to have been coach of the Ulster Rugby team. Winning the Celtic League two seasons ago was a huge highlight and it has been very rewarding to watch the Ulster representation in the Irish Squad rise year on year.”
“During my time I have received fantastic support from the Ulster Branch and I am grateful to have worked with a very professional management team who have become friends as well as colleagues. I believe the time is right for someone else to take the team forward and I would like to wish all concerned every success in the future.”
oh yeah, and then theres the reports that ulster fans made life threatening remarks to McCall and the CEO Mike Reid...
and then, apparantly theres talks about an assault over the whole issue... not sure if players are involved, but the way things are going, the rumours could be true...
A Roller-Coaster ride for the fans to say the least....
Tomorrow, comes Bourgoin in France. I'm quietly confident about this game, our team is back playing in their favoured positions, however the harmony may have been lost... more so than it already had been, and unfortunately the last time Bourgoin won in the HEC was against... yup, you guessed it, Ulster many years ago. sheesh typical.
