He will have his full squad next year, go through and win the comp then take over Wallabies.
It's not as if Knuckles as used the Super 14 Season to achieve anything as Wallaby Coach, why should Deanes...

So who are you pitching for in the interim - Knuckles ain't going to be around after the RWC can't see the ARU going for another caretaker - so they have to appoint a coach for a couple of years anyways

Pretty sure there aren't any matches between the end of the World Cup and post Super 14 '08 so no real need for a Coach to be in place during that period.
If Deanes, then he could appoint his assistants to caretake (a little like Australian Soccer last few years) or just have the team manager and CEO taking care of business until players become involved towards the en of the S14.
As far as I am concerned, things are so crap at the ARU currently and Deanes is so far in front as the best candidate, that a little bit of left field planning would be well worth it in the long run to ensure he can take the post.
