Wallabies standby player Jone Tawake has a hangover from Sydney University's rugby premiership celebrations, having been charged with a low-range prescribed content alcohol (PCA) driving offence.
Brumbies utility forward Tawake was returning to Canberra on Sunday morning after his club side Sydney University defeated Eastern Suburbs 34-11 in the Shute Shield grand final on Saturday.
The World Cup shadow player blew a low-range PCA of 0.06. The legal limit is 0.05.
"I had a good solid sleep after our celebrations on Saturday night and headed back home about 9am," he said today in a statement issued by the Brumbies.
"I felt I was perfectly right to drive and it just shows how careful you have to be.
"I accept that I've done the wrong thing and I will accept whatever punishment is given to me by the courts and the Brumbies."
Brumbies chief executive Andrew Fagan said Tawake should have known better.
"This type of infringement, no matter how big or small, is serious and something we do not condone," he said.
"The players live their lives in the public eye and certainly have to be vigilant about the way they conduct themselves.
"I've spoken with Jone who legitimately believed he was right to drive.
"He is very embarrassed by the situation and will certainly be more careful about dealing with similar situations in the future.
"We hope this serves an example of how careful you have to be."
Tawake will face Brumbies Rugby disciplinary proceedings on completion of his court hearing.
Brother Gallagher I hear you
I am so slow in posting threads today, i was gonna post this one too....bugger, anyhow, poor bastard, barely over the limit, probably got some fresh police recruit out of goulbourn testing him, and rather than wait a while and see if a second reading is less than the first, booked him asap...I guess anyway, i know i have had a few close calls...
Proudly bought to you by a brewery somewhere....
He has to remember that his body isn't so big any more and he can't handle as much alcohol as he could when he had all his fingers

Bummer...cop prob. knew who he was too
Bit unlucky there really but he has a really good attitude about it. Accepting the blame and doing the right thing.
What a trooper.![]()
I made Happy sad...
I don't understand why he would have to face Brumbies disciplinary proceedings as well though?
It is out of (S14) season, there is no talk of curfews etc, he was representing his Club, not his Province, he hasn't caused any scene or assaulted someone.
It seems a bit heavy handed to me.
He's admitted guilt, he's been publicly shamed, he'll no doubt be fined as a public figure, move on.
