    Tahs plan attack strategy

Looks like the Tahs are planning to go on the attack in 2008.
    Good thing too.

Waratahs seek attack coach after poor season

The New South Wales Waratahs have responded to their poor Super 14 rugby season by seeking an attack-oriented coach and an independent selector to work with head coach Ewen McKenzie.

The Waratahs endured one of their worst ever seasons, winning three games to finish only above Australian rivals Queensland Reds in the 2007 tournament.

The New South Wales Rugby Board undertook a review of the season and endorsed four recommendations from the inquest.

The Waratahs will advertise for an attack coach to work with McKenzie, add an independent member to the selection panel, form a rugby advisory panel and put its "High Performance Unit" under a complete review.

"The board was extremely disappointed with the 2007 season but after reviewing it closely we have identified several areas where the Waratahs need support," said NSW Rugby chairman Arvid Petersen in a statement on Thursday.

"In particular we have isolated four critical areas that we believe will improve our future prospects."

Petersen said the appointment of an attack coach will proceed without delay, while the independent selector will be part of a three-man panel including an assistant coach and the head coach.

"I want to stress that this is a revamp of our structural set-up, not a culling of our people," Petersen said.

"We have an outstanding head coach who has presented a comprehensive report and taken our constructive criticism admirably."

McKenzie, who was criticised throughout the Super 14 season for some of his selections, tactics and recruitment, said the board's recommendations would be implemented immediately.

"I've got no complaints," McKenzie said in the statement. "We had a poor year, we've already started moving in the right direction and I'm more than happy with the directives the board has made."

McKenzie said the search for an attack coach could be decided within days.

"We have several top candidates who are looking to join the Waratahs and we must act soon as it is decision time for many of these coaches," he said.

They must have forgotten that they let Brian Melrose go in last year's end of seasion review so they never got around to replacing him...
