Horwill in doubt after training knock

AUSTRALIA lock James Horwill is in doubt for Saturday night's Tri-Nations rugby clash against South Africa after copping a heavy knock to his sternum at training in Perth.

Horwill was forced to sit out the latter half of the session conducted in driving rain and will be assessed by team doctors.

Fellow second-rower Dan Vickerman, who was sidelined for Australia's Test wins over Ireland and France after undergoing ankle surgery following the Super 14 season, is also in some doubt after failing to complete the session.

Vickerman made a successful return to club rugby over the weekend and trained on Monday but sat out the last part of the session.

The 29-year-old iced his right ankle for 20 minutes and was limping noticeably afterwards.

But in better news, inside centre Berrick Barnes, who injured his shoulder against France, got through the physical session unscathed.

"It's good. I got through that contact session fine and as you saw it was pretty physical," Barnes said.

"I'll be having plenty more (hits) come Saturday night so we know what to expect."

Damn, I was looking forward to watching Horwill and Vickerman in the flesh. Good to see Barnes is getting through his injury.

"Still reeling from the fall out of the Firepower fisaco, the viability of WA's Super 14 franchise was called into question again today when new second-row wunderkind James Horwill was left nursing an injured sterum after a mishap during training. The Herald has been informed that the injury was the direct result of inadequate facilities in the west, which have fallen into disrepair since the team was abandoned by it's sponsor. An unnamed sauce was quoted as saying "If we were playing in Sydney, we'd be on a rain-proof, injury-proof field and none of this would have happened. The only sensible move for the ARU would be to move the team and this Saturday's test to Melbourne".

Sharpe admits his place is on the line - Western Force Rugby Supporters Site

So does the above article not count anymore, if Horwill is in doubt Sharpie will be back in?

That's my point. Is the article on the other thread void now, with Howill possibly out and Vickerman unlikely to play, does that give free run for Sharpie to get back in to the side?

hopefully sharpie earns his spot regardless. the aussie lineout isn't the same without him there and he should get selected before vickerman as vickermans not played for 6 odd weeks, but injuries will probably have the final say ...
the other article was probably written yesterday, before todays injuries at training ....
