Respected West Australian businessman, Russel Perry, has been endorsed as RugbyWA’s new Chairman by the committee of clubs and affiliated bodies attending the Annual General Meeting in Floreat last night.
Mr Perry is Chief Executive Officer of Capricorn Village Joint Venture, a 600 hectare land development in Perth’s northern suburbs, and has held a variety of other senior property management positions as well having significant experience in corporate affairs and media, where he was previously Manager of Channel 7 in Perth and a Member of the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal.
A life member of RugbyWA, the WA Referees Association and the University of WA Rugby Club, Mr Perry has a long association with the game as a State player, Test Panel referee, Judiciary Chair and more recently at Board level where he has served since 2006 as RugbyWA’s Deputy Chairman and Chairman of the Audit & Compliance Committee.
Mr Perry takes over from Geoff Stooke OAM CitWA who retired after a quarter of a century on the Board, 23 of those as Chairman.
“Rugby Union has much to look forward to in the years ahead, although nothing comes without challenges and I believe we have a Board that is determined, active and qualified to meet those challenges head on,” Mr Perry said.
“I’d like to acknowledge the outstanding service of outgoing Chairman Geoff Stooke who has laid a wonderful platform for rugby to prosper in this state. I have very similar views to Geoff in terms of what is required to continue our development in WA and have an agenda to ensure that work is carried into the future.
“In all that we do RugbyWA has a clear aim. We must provide opportunities to progress from grassroots, through to our local grades, academy programmes and ultimately pull on the ocean blue jersey of the Emirates Western Force and gold of the Wallabies.”
Two Board positions were also up for election with sitting Board Members Steve Fink and Tony Howarth AO CitWA renominating and being appointed for further two year terms.

Russel is a damn fine man and an astute student of the game; a very good choice as The New Bloke. I know a few people who know Russel and no-one has a bad word to say about him.
Stookie, on the other hand...........
