Western Force's Josh Valentine urged to focus on his game

WESTERN Force coach John Mitchell has urged halfback Josh Valentine to concentrate solely on his rugby tonight against the Lions at Subiaco Oval and to allow any contract offers to take care of themselves.
In a bid to revive his injury blighted career, the former Reds and Waratahs halfback moved to Perth on a one-season contract this year. And for a sizeable chunk of the Super 14 season, it hardly seemed likely the Force would be in any rush to invite him to stay on.
Ironically, just as the Force's negotiations with Waratahs and Wallabies back-up halfback Brett Sheehan began to turn serious last month, Valentine's form exploded, so much so that he may well be back to the same level he reached in 2006 when he played his four Tests for Australia.
Mitchell does not have the sole call on whether Valentine will be made a new offer but he is the most influential member of the player-list committee and all he wants from the feisty scrapper is more of the same against the Lions.
