I'll believe it when I see it, but hooray!
The State Government says the old Perth entertainment centre will be demolished early next year.
The site on Wellington Street has been vacant for 8 years and needs to be demolished in order to sink the rail line and allow the Northbridge Link project to proceed.
Channel 7 owns the site and hopes to put in a development application before the end of the year.
Seven Group CEO Peter Gammell says no final decisions have been made about what to put on the 2 1/2 hectare site.
"Obviously we have one of the key sites in Perth and it's a real opportunity to build some really spectacular buildings," he said.
"So, it will certainly run into the hundreds of millions of dollars but we'll be looking for a partner to do that."

It's a bloody eyesore, and a criminal waste that it wasn't used as the site for the Perth Arena. Maybe it would have made the Arena even more over budget!
WHERE'S OUR STADIUM BARNETT....?????
"Obviously we have one of the key sites in Perth and it's a real opportunity to build some really spectacular buildings,"
Yeah, that being Channel Seven's core business and Perth having such a stellar track record of knowing what a spectacular building looks like! If they want council/government approval, probably best they look "to build some really nearly adequate buildings".
Still, I've no doubt that before we know it we'll be able to walk directly from the city through to Northbridge at 7pm via a spectacular array of closed offices and shops, beautifully bedecked by a dazzling display of shutters and security barred windows, protecting themselves against all the vibrant urban renewal spilling over from Northbridge.
Something to blend in with the "crushed coke can" (Len Buckeridge) next door?
Notice how the external part of the Perth Stadium looks like big 7's?
