Being manhandled to the ground and brusquely frogmarched from the ground it the seemingly inevitable fate of any streaker, a humiliating enough end to what might have briefly seemed a few moments earlier a good idea.
But during the Highlanders match against the Blues in Dunedin a streaker suffered the ignominy of being tackled by mascot Andrew James who was at the time dressed as a giant chicken.
"I noticed a streaker on the field and thought immediately, 'This is no good, It's our stadium and we've got to protect it'," James earnestly told the local media. "So I gave it my all, gunned it for the streaker and managed to chase him down."
Continuing to take his role with extreme seriousness, he continued: "Being a chicken mascot, I've got a lot of pride. It was for the team, the supporters, and the stadium."
And perhaps with one eye on commercial spin-offs, James concluded: "I call it the smother hen … just wrap them up and pin them to the ground."
