Liberals not so sure of Kitchener Park stadium
Glen Foreman

THE Liberal Government's hesitation over the proposed $1b Kitchener Park sports stadium contrasts sharply to their attitude in Opposition more than a year ago.
While the political landscape has changed dramatically -- and the new Government now has to fund its $700m-a-year Royalties for Regions commitment -- history records they were strong supporters of the outdoor Kitchener Park stadium

The AFL types feel like they're being screwed.
What a shame. I'd almost be happy to stay at Subi if it's gunna really piss them off.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
Great.
New footy oval/Subi redevelopment on backburner for now.
In a few years they might get around to thinking about planning it.
In another 10 years it might be planned/designed/built.
Then they'll sit back and say 'well we just spent 1.5 billion dollars on a stadium, there's no more to go around- schools, hospitals etc" for a few years.
Then they might start thinking about forming a committee to investigate the possibility of a rugby stadium.
I can only hope my grandchildren live long enough to see it finished.
I just heard the new Minister for sports on ABC radio for the first time.
His nickname should be Ryobi.
Yep, kinda get the feeling that the Libs are rediscovering that it is one thing to flap your gums in opposition, quite another when you're the bloke responsible. Pretty sure we are in for a world class display of backpeddling, double-talking, blame shifting and dithering over the next year or two.
You mean like this FS??
I must be a little slow today. I only got the end of the Waldron interview?.......
Not into slogans, WF2006, more into the actual substance and intrinsic nature of the product.![]()
Waldron was spouting platitudes and making excuses. Gets his advice from Ron Alexander. Lives in an AFL cocoon.
Bottom line between the lines, can't do new stadium, will throw a few million at AFL to keep them happy and quiet in the short to medium term, bugger the rest.

Sadly, Flame, it's not.
Dithering certainly, but not so much of the first three - instead we mostly just got Ripper standing there giving everyone two fingers.
just give us 40mil to do up MES and then the AFL can do as they please.........i hate subi so much...
Hmmm thinking that the whole stadium thing will be on the back burner until the next election
61 years between Grand SlamsWas the wait worth it - Ya betta baby
Not saying we should settle for the bare minimum but the way I see it is: we get a couple of million to refurb MES or we get nothing. It would seem that no one is willing to give us a new stadium and they certaintly aren't willing to give us priority if/when Subi is re-done.
I think accept the money we get offered (if we get offered any) and use it to our full advantage and get everything we can out of it. Do as much as we can to make the best of what we have got and hope that league, soccer and union all get a pay out that can be pooled for a common cause.
Its that or back to Subi and have nothing at all. Still play the tests at Subi because we need the seating but play Super 14 etc at MES.
(By we I mean union, soccer and league)
I haven't followed the stadium thing that closely from the beginning, so forgive me for any display of ignorance.
Have RugbyWa done any work towards looking at putting up some money to improve MES themselves? or working toward a joint private/public arrangement to fund the improvement?.
I know there would be a multitude of issue's to deal with but whatever the force are currently paying in rent for subi could possibly be better used for debt repayments elsewhere.
