I've just had a mate give me a first hand account on what happened on that dreaded Qantas flight on Tuesday. And it definitely sounded pretty scary. Not something that I want to go through EVER!
As you probably know, Qantas has been having a bad spate of events lately, whether they claim it's their fault or not. But I don't like the sounds of part of a plane exploding mid air, or a plane going into a nosedive and plunging 3000 feet in 20 secs.... twice!
People may say that the media is picking on them now, but then again, these stuff did happen and you can't avoid reading it!
I know I'm now thinking twice about flying our national air carrier, and will be more than happy to pay the extras to fly on Singapore Airlines or Emirates (and support the force!) now. I've still got a return ticket on Qantas to London in december, but not too sure if I want to continue with it. You may say what are the odds of it happening to you, but that's what my friend said and it did happen to him..
How about you? Would you fly Qantas again?
I'll have that ticket if it's going free and spare!
It's QANTAS' fault for going el cheapo on their maintenance. This is the sort of thing, along with the plane that had the hole in the fuselage, the mechanics and engineers they started sacking were warning would happen.
But they still have the best safety record of any airline in the world, so yes i would fly QANTAS.

ide fly qantas over anything.
even if the maitenance is the problem they have the best pilots hence the best record in the world.
I don't believe there is any need to be concerned about Qantas. Yes they have had a few incidents recently but quite a few of them would never have even made it to the news had there not been pay and work issues with the engineering/maintenance staff. How many of these incidents happen everyday with other airlines? (Apart from the obvious that is)
Besides, I'm pretty sure that all the alternative airlines have overseas maintenance carried out.
Qantas' safety record is still pretty exceptional.
Just happy to be here
That is true Gunny however they may be able to put them on the ground without killing everyone on board.
Who is to say that if the same thing had happened on another airline Australia wouldn't have a new crater in the North West.
Any muppet can take off and land one of those planes when everything is going as it should. The fact a well trained pilot is there when things go wrong on Qantas is a reassuring thing to know.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
Not entirely true gunny when I first learnt to fly I did it in aircraft without engines.
if you ever get the chance flying large gliders is very relaxing.
Mind you my nickname at the Squadron was airbourne hazzard............. maybe you were right on the money.
War is Gods may of teaching Americans Geography
Majority of Qantas pilots have been trained by the RAAF plus have 12 years of RAAF experience.
Thats good enough for me.

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa
I'd still fly with Qantas - they still have a pretty good safety record.
But it goes to show, when they tell you to keep your seat belts buckled while you're in your seat - there's a damn good reason for it!
Laugh and the world laughs with you.......
......cry and you'll weaken your beer
Probably would. The management and board need to remember that in-house maintenance costs less than dead passengers and aircraft.

never had a problem with QANTAS. good people, good service. been flying with them for about... 13 years and never a hiccup.
Be There. Be Heard. Be The Force Behind The Force
yes they can ... years ago a British Airways flight had all four engines die when they went through volcanic ash high up .. the pilot went into a nose dive, managed to clear one engine enough to restart it and continued on to land safely .. so I think your slightly incorrect!
Qantas and BA are still IMHO the best pilots in the world to put your faith in.
