we all have been sayting " give the locals a shot etc give them experiance blood locals " but gee when you see in the paper today that the Bro boys of Bayswater have imported 10 players to their senior team what chance is there. Wanaroo is just as bad......... French rugby is trying to stop this importation of players because they can see the damage this ia doing longterm.Gee RWA should cap this to help bread locals that want to stay in WA and represent their state as a Force member
we have imported 10 new players into our 1st grade squad?!? first i have heard, im pretty sure there might be 4 new players in the team - off which 2 are of maori descent - so b4 u start pulling out the racist rubbish understand that since the inception of the western force there has been quite a few players flock to w.a in hope of making something out of their rugby careers. since the force is the organisation that is made out to look as if it is struggling the most they believe here is where their best opportunity lies... there is still ALOT of players playing in the 1st grade comp, and within the academy most of them have been playing here for quite a few years if not their whole lives. I personally think the importation of players has strengthened the comp, and I have witnessed it 1st hand since starting out my 1st grade career when i was 17. The comp is only going to get stronger with the influence of these sometimes semi professional but definately very experienced players
Out of curiosity, how active is RugbyWA in using the professional set-up to lift the overall level of the amateur game? Is there much by way of specialised coaching or involvement with the grade teams outside of the Academy?
That's great.
If the standard of first grade goes up another notch then that's great. Theres always second and third grade. I might be in the minority here but I'd rather watch a higher quality first grade comp with imports in it than all 'local' boys only with a lower standard.
If your good enough and local you'll still get a game.
Elwee has just come back from a 3 week training camp as a guest of the NZRU. A coaching clinic from Graham Henry no less.
Seriously how do you expect rugby to grow in WA if you want to keep it in the shade.
We all love the Force and theres only one born and bred WA boy in it and he never gets a game hardly anyway.
This is the beginning of the future, a future where we might actually win the super 14 one day which is the goal remember.
Back in the 80's when i played (anceint history) WA rugby was basically an ex-pats game. 1st teams - and most of the lower grades made up of Kiwi's, Safa's, Brits, Queenslanders and New south welshmen. It was very rare for a born and bred WA player to get to 1st grade.
Most locals dropped out after colts - as the gap from colts level to grade was quite large.
What would be interesting now is if there are more local born players at least reaching that level - has the schools and and junior program improved to the extent of more players coming through?

One more thing.
I'd like to know how many people who complain about 'too many imports in local rugby' actually go and watch their local team week in week out.
I remember last year people on here were saying that it was the first local game they had been to during the finals and how much they enjoyed it.
I know personally from watching the roodogs how much more exciting it was watching some of the imports last year. I cant wait for this Saturday.
Personally I don't get this it would be better if we won and they were all locals mentallity. Second place is the first loser.
It is so great to finally watch local grass roots rugby developing into what it is. Get on board.
you are not serious are you
Most of the guys playing club rugby in WA was lured here by the economical boom. Some of them from overseas and some from the east but most of them now live here and classify themselves as Western Australians
I do agree that there is a few that have been brought in by different clubs but in my opinion that is only to make up for the lack of talent and experience the clubs have in certain areas.
There is very little money in WA club rugby so there definately ain't a lot of players here that can call themselfs payed rugby players
Not even the academy players get decent money

At baysies there are quite a few guys that came all the way from junior rugby We've had 86 players through the Baysies Academy in three years, and quite a few of our academy boys are playing premier rugby now, and one went on tour with the Force and one is playing in NZ club comp if I am not mistaken
The more imports the better I say, some of them have kids dont they or will end up staying in Perth for good and their kids will become players and be classed as locals.Or even better they bring their extended families with them.Im sure that is the case already.
Competition breeds excellence.. I know every single local Fresno player, regardless of their level of experience, has benefited from playing alongside our 3 NZ imports. I think the same would be true for any local team in any sport...
by and large, language is a tool for concealing the truth-george carlin:
Ok far enough buy in talent get them experiance and then let them move onto green pasture leaving perth once again with talent with no experiance. But would like to see more of RWA $ looking at school rugby to start of joining the PSA rugby with the club rugby each with their own agenda!!!
Nah it never happens, because they obviously never come to the club.
