I was just reading another forum where there was a thread congratulating Brad Thorne on returning to good form for the Brisbane Broncos this year after some ordinary form last year when returning from the All Blacks.
I know he fulfilled hid boyhood dream by making the AB's but for mine he was always a 50/50 selection at best. Still a fantastic achievement though.
As happens the thread wandered a bit and eventually ended up arguing whether Daniel Carter would be a star at RL, as good as Joey.
Got me to thinking how few players there have been to cross codes and really prove to be champion players at both. I can remember as far back as Dick Thornett and remember my Dad talking about Rex Mossop. I heard Dally Messenger was OK too. Russell Fairfax & Ray Price are up there. But I wouldn't rate Ricky Stewart or Mick O'Conner as a champion at both. For mine the one that sticks out was the first, AFAIK, to be a champion at both codes and then cross back and captain the national team at his first code.
Any thoughths?
