From today's Sunday Times.
Ok this is warming up to be an election issue - where to next - would be nice if we could get a "Rugby" personna to out and express our concerns about Rugby totalling the pitch for AFL games - and without us the whole stadium is not financially viable -
Would a rectangular stadium help with bids for Olympics and Kevin Rudds desire to host the Soccer World Cup
61 years between Grand Slams Was the wait worth it - Ya betta baby
so its not just us that sees that the govt is caving to the will of AFL.
even international compaines have noticed it!
Haha... i liked that bit too Jono... he "sensed that football had hijacked the agenda"
In Perth? Our dear benevolent landloards? Surely no....
Can anyone find this journo's email addy?
nope... found a facebook page though
While we're on the subject maybe it would be good to attach Gerry's scan of that article and a link to the Western Suburbs Weekly article to any e mails our members send to election candidates.

Do you want to do the honours Swee?
Trying to come up with useful spin in this AFL state:
1: Carps folly - allowing AFL to talk him into a finacailly unviable stadium - not multipurpose - need rugby to make it viable - fans won't come if not in rectangular configuration - AFL won't go for rectangular option once they see the state of the pitch - not suitable for Soccer World Cup (not enough spectators in Rec) useless to Soccer fans or Commonwealth Games - therefore AFL will be left supporting this stadium ALONE - and oh yeah the state looses.
2: Labour won't support Nurses, Teachers or any other Sport other than AFL in Perth - Labour lied to the ARU about the $25 million for a dedicated stadium and purloined the monies to support a faltering AFL.
Will come up with more as the wine goes down the gullet

Oh by the way anyone who reckons that the nurses, teachers are hard done by now will just have to wait until there is no rugby in this state and we tax payers are paying for the blasted stadium

the main question that i have had through all of this is: would perth have been awarded the 13th super franchise if SANZAR knew that the current western australian government was going to reneg on its promise for a dedicated rectangular stadium?
Thats a really interesting point Jono.
I wasn't here when the whole bidding thing was going on, so those more in the know might be able to comment with more insight on the actual answer to that.
As I see it, Rugby has basically been punished for being more popular than anyone suspected- since too many people are coming to game to justify a 25,000 seat patch up to MES, we get diddly-squat.
That first point of TQ1s is a really good summary of where we're at with sports infrastructure in this state.
I can give the letter a burl tonight, if noone gets to it before then.
I had a shot at one here

You can likely improve on it tonight.
