The Western Force were yesterday thrust into the forefront of southern hemisphere rugby’s escalating battle for survival against rich European clubs.
As yet the Force have been little affected by the cross-equator exodus of players threatening to reduce Super 14 to the status of soccer’s A-League, which is predominantly populated by little-name players unable to gain a lucrative overseas contract.
However, the chief executive of London giant Harlequins shattered the calm by warning the Australia-New Zealand-South Africa rugby axis would be completely stripped of its best players inside 10 years.
the rest from the West.....
A dollar being worth 53 Euro today when it was about 65 a couple of months ago is making things just that much harder. Elsom, Gasnier & Co have effectively had a 20% pay increase for SFA.
As an aside, can anyone explain why the Yank $ is going gangbusters when it is supposedly them who are in the deepest financial sh!t?

i mentioned this last year on our return from france, if you not involved with the wallabies set up why would not leave to play overseas and triple your wages?.......
you forgot that you would also be playing more games 22 games as opposed to 14 if you are lucky and then spending 4 months running up and down sandhills
61 years between Grand SlamsWas the wait worth it - Ya betta baby
Currency rates aside, I wonder how healthy the European Clubs' bank balances will be after the global financial disaster has had its full effect on them..
I rather suspect that the rats will be jumping back on to the good ship Australia to sail back into safer economic waters once the pay cheques start to contract.

anyway the proceeds from the Paly quiz night should bankroll a few Force players for a few seasons
You there, Gunny?
Dear Lord, if you give us back Johnny Cash, we'll give you Justin Bieber.
do you have any idea what is going on in Europe, France and Ireland are in recession with Britain expected to be next. These countries are the 3 biggest poachers of players in the past few years.
It will definetly effect the game of rugby in these countries, especially clubs who have debts, it will also have impacts on there sponsorship level, gate turnovers and broadcast income.
In the mean time Australia turns around and announces our biggest trade surplus in almost 15years.
& meanwhile the aussie dollar has reduced value V thegreenback by over 20 cents in the past month
