Scotland head coach Frank Hadden will be urged to commit himself to the national team after his break following the World Cup.
Gordon McKie, the chief executive of the Scottish Rugby Union, has confirmed Hadden is the man he wants to lead the national team into the RBS 6 Nations Championship.
Talks with Hadden, 53, are expected shortly and McKie hopes the former Edinburgh coach will not need much persuading to stay on.
Hadden's previous deal took him to the end of the World Cup, where Scotland reached the quarter-finals. They bowed out after defeat to Argentina in Paris on October 7.
"We want Frank to stay as national coach and I will be telling him that personally," McKie told the Daily Mail.
"I know that Frank has done a great job and players have stated publicly that he should be given a new contract."
"We feel the same and will now sit down and say, 'Right Frank, here's a pen, let's get this done'."
