Reds in the hunt for Karmichael to beef up back line
Jim Morton | July 20, 2008
The Queensland Reds are eager to gauge Karmichael Hunt's interest in swapping codes before adding their name to his growing list of suitors.
The Reds confirmed they were keen to lure Hunt to Ballymore if the Queensland State of Origin fullback genuinely wanted to return to rugby.
The Reds had listed the Broncos star in their planning for the 2010 Super 14 before NRL interest in his services exploded last week.
Hunt, who played rugby union throughout high school at Brisbane's Anglican Church Grammar School, has said he'd be "stupid" not to consider all options when his Brisbane contract expires next year.

his a fantastic player and i remember watching him a few years ago when he was in the Churchie 1stXV and he was a pretty good fullback back then.
Although, he doesnt come off contract for another 18months so it going to be a long time before we hear anything about him, i doubt he would leave the broncos, he loves the club, but a lot of that has to do with Bennet being coach.
thats what i was getting at, i doubt that he would go to St George, i believe he may be tempted to give rugby ago, but honestly the only real reason he was playing it at schoolboy level is because the Broncos paid for his schooling at Churchie. There arent any 'elite' private schools in Brisbane that play rugby league.
Though he has achieved everything there is to do in Rugby League, especially if his in the side when Australian win the RLWC later this year. He is only 21/22 and he has already won a NRL premiership, State of Origin and Kangaroos.
I dont know why the reds dont go shopping for the likes of Inglis or Falou, 20 and 18 respectivily and have S** loads of talent.
Inglis was alledgedly approached about a possible switch of codes a few years ago. Wasn't interested

....and Falou has recently been poached by Brisbane from Melbourne for a four year deal worth some serious coin.
thats correct, although i don't recall the exact figure from the report that i read. That kid is a freak

Unlike Thorn, it'd be an Australian team signing him...
True, if he goes to the Reds. I suppose not too many NZ franchises would offer him a deal without seeing him play some Rugby first. I seem to recall Thorne had no rugby background to speak of when Robbie Deans took a punt on him, which makes his achievements in the tight five all the more remarkable.

yeah like someone said earlier, Inglis was approached by the Force a couple of years ago and said he doesnt want to go to union, and Israel just signed a new pretty long contract.
I reckon Billy Slater would go pretty good in rugby union, he reminds me a lot of Latham the way he plays.
I read somewhere the other day that when Thorn first went across he broke the Crusaders bench press record on a warm-up set.
