Boom Emirates Western Force lock Tom Hockings will undergo surgery on his injured right shoulder tonight.
The Bowen-born lock was a revelation for the WA side this season, seizing his opportunity and cementing a place in the starting XV after he was called on as a last minute-replacement for captain Nathan Sharpe in the season-opening clash with the Sharks in Durban.
Starting all but the final three matches of the team’s 2008 Super 14 campaign, the 22 year old was rubbed out of representative calculations when he succumbed to nerve damage in his right shoulder.
Emirates Western Force team doctor Peter Steele said subsequent examination of the injured shoulder revealed existing ligament damage which required surgical repair.
"Tom was carrying some labour-related ligament damage in the shoulder but unfortunately we couldn’t have it operated while he was recovering from the nerve injury,” said Steele.
“He’ll have a labour repair procedure tonight and will be in rehabilitation mode for up to four months.” he said.
Hockings will be unavailable for the team’s month-long tour of the UK in August and is expected to rejoin the squad for 2009 pre-season training in October
Good luck with the surgery Hocko! Hope you keep up the great progress you've made![]()
Be There. Be Heard. Be The Force Behind The Force
Better to get it done now early in his career I guess.
May have been a shot at Australia A but pretty unlikely.
Shame to miss the UK Tour though as that will go a long way towards developing the '09 team I'd imagine.
Good luck mate
Any word on O'Connor lately?
"Bloody oath we did!"
Nathan Sharpe, Legend.
or drew?
or spanner?
or cummins?
Bugger for Tommy, he has to be find of the Tournament for mine!
Kieren would be close as well!
Before anybody brings up Rabbit, he came in with MASSSSSSSIIIIIIIVVVVEEE wraps on him, it was pretty obvious he was something special, but both the forwards pretty much pooed up out of the blue and grabbed their shot with both hands.....Good on 'em hope Tommy continues where he left off and pushes for Reps selection next year (it'll be a bit easier with no Vicks as well)
C'mon the![]()

BOKKE“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White
aww poor guy hope it all goes well!
A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...
