Suaalii cost rugby $5m but he’s already worth $50m to the code, says McLennan

Joseph Suaalii has shown considerable class by contacting fallen rugby figures Hamish McLennan and Eddie Jones to thank them for their support and assure them he will be honouring his deal with Rugby Australia.
“I’ve been playing phone tennis with him all week,” Jones said. “I know what he wants to say because he spoke to Hamish and I appreciate it. His actions in calling up says it all about the sort of kid he is. He is quality. He will be right when it comes to his deal. He’s fine.”

Curious as to what metric McLennan uses to claim he's worth $50 million to the code. Suaali isn't an established NRL star like Folau, or even Sailor, Rogers or Tuqiri were when they jumped to Rugby.
Do I assume it's another arbitrary figure pulled out his atse? Maybe it's verbal agreement he made with someone?
The obvious flaw in such a strategy is that PVL (& others like Nick Politis etc) have been in the salary cap/contracting game a long time. They don't bluff often & they often know when they are holding the aces and the other bloke is bullshitting. The only confusing thing is seeing a bloke of McLennan's experience has behaved like such a novice.

I'm not a big fan of PVL but if he gets into a pissing contest with Rugby Australia he's probably going to win it.
They'd probably give it a bloody good headbutting though, through sheer force of habit...
I was as interested in the players intent, a good sign for the future.
His withdrawal would have all sorts of negative implications for the Code.
