Emirates Western Force winger Scott Staniforth flew home to Perth from South Africa on Tuesday after being ruled out of the club’s final two matches of the 2010 season.
Staniforth suffered a neck injury in the 33-12 win against the Lions and following scans in Cape Town has returned to WA to allow the injury to settle and then start his rehab.
It is a disappointing outcome for Staniforth who had only just returned from a calf injury to play against the Lions where he scored the first try of the game.
“It’s not going to affect his long term playing future,” said RugbyWA General Manager of Ruby, Mitch Hardy.
“This type of injury needs some time to settle and with only a couple of games to go in the 2010 season there is no need to rush that process.
“We have the option to bring a replacement over to join the squad but at this stage it is likely that Cameron Shepherd will be available for selection which gives us some cover in the backline.”
The Emirates Western Force squad is currently training in Cape Town before heading to Bloemfontein later in the week to tackle the Cheetahs on Saturday night. The West Australian side will then round out their 2010 campaign with a game against the Sharks in Durban on Friday, 14 May.
