England will host the 2015 Rugby World Cup, while Japan will stage the 2019 edition, the International Rugby Board (IRB) announced here on Tuesday.
The 26-man IRB council voted to ratify a recommendation from the World Cup board that England and Japan should host the next two tournaments.
The English Rugby Football Union beat competition from South Africa and Italy after submitting a bid that outlined how England's "low risk, high return" package is projected to generate STG300 million ($A600 million) for the IRB, who rely on the tournament for 98 percent of their income.
On top of the 80 million pounds tournament fee, the "mature" UK market would attract a further 220 million pounds in commercial returns from broadcasting, sponsorship and merchandising.
That figure is understood to be at least 20 per cent more than the bids from either South Africa or Italy and 50 per cent greater than France generated from the 2007 World Cup.
The 2015 World Cup will run from September 4 to October 17, when the final will be played at Twickenham.
Matches will be staged in 10 cities and the 12 stadiums chosen include Wembley, Manchester United's Old Trafford, Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, Liverpool's Anfield and Leeds's Elland Road, while the Millennium Stadium in Wales is the only venue being used outside England.
The last time England hosted the tournament was in 1991, when Will Carling's team were beaten in the final by Australia.
Hosting the 2015 Rugby World Cup is estimated to be worth 2.1 billion pounds to the British economy.
The tournament forms a central plank of Britain's so-called "decade of sport", which also includes the 2012 Olympics, the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, the 2014 Commonwealth Games and potentially the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Gee I am not disappointed that Italy didn’t get it just for the sake of going to clean toilet facilities. A trip to England in 2015 sounds the goods now to start sowing the seeds with the financial manager
Generally speaking you aren’t learning much if your lips are moving!!!
No surprises there but 2015 for a return trip to the UK is being pencilled in immediately!
CHEERLEADERS ROCK!!!
As above - hope we get Leeds - anywhere but London - it's a nightmare

i know that. but wont they use that stadium anyways?

Yes - and like FA I want to go to cardiff as well - if only for the pub crawl between the train station and the ground again - honestly the place is just designed to host any international team - would accept Australia taking over Wales for a couple of weeks

TQ1 - the Welsh would accept Australia taking over Wales for a couple of weeks, too, as long as England got beaten.

The Welsh are no alonefor some reason suspect that the English are more anxious to beat the Boks as they seem to be the english Hoodoo team.
the really odd thing about the World Cup is the Hoodoo's that are developing - the All Blacks struggle with the French, Ireland with Argentina, Wales and Fiji are developing some history.

Phew, Japan finally. Shame I'll be 39 by then...
Let's see if they can get the ON-field stuff right before then.

Wales will have to wait until March 2010 before being confirmed as a 2015 Rugby World Cup venue country, it was revealed on Wednesday.
Dublin was the setting on Tuesday as England were awarded the rights to stage the event after beating off rival bidders South Africa and Italy, with a vote of 16-10 sufficient support for the RFU.
Immediately following the decision there was a formal release of the twelve planned venues - one of which being the Millennium Stadium that will stage two quarter-finals and Pool fixtures.
However, it seems IRB Chief Executive Mike Millar holds the view that the tournament should be played in one country, with games in the Welsh capital now having to be endorsed by the council.
