Eddie Jones shoots down Matt Giteau's monster Bayonne offer

Eddie Jones shoots down Matt Giteau's monster Bayonne offer

December 02, 2008 FORMER Australia coach Eddie Jones has shot down reports of his former charge Matt Giteau being offered a four-year deal worth almost $10 million by French club Bayonne.
Jones, who is currently working for English club Saracens, said the deal for the superstar was not nearly as much as had been reported.

"It is not that much mate, they have their figures wrong there must be something wrong with those conversion charts in Australia," he told Sydney radio station 2KY.

"My understanding is it is about $1.2 million a year over three years, so it is about $3.6 million.

"That is good money but nothing like what they are talking about."

Giteau is currently considering his options but is believed to be leaning towards staying put.

If he does opt to stay in Australia, he still has to decide whether to stick with Western Force or head back to his original Super team, the Brumbies for the 2009 season.

NO!! No he doesn't! He has sign a contract, and it's bloody binding for 2009. There are certain levels of respect one must have for a club and for yourself, and I don't think Giteau's level of respect for the force and himself are so low that he is just going to walk out! I think he is an incredibly respectful boy, who is a worthy guy for all the fans he has. and he's not just going to WALK OUT!

JEEZ these articles are starting to piss me off!!

as i posted in the other thread, unless the force have wronged him in some way that we dont know about, he needs to stay at the force, third party agreements are meant to be that and if he leaves over them not being honored then it means horrible things all over aus rugby, man up gits, you signed the paper now grip your balls and do whats right by the force and its fans!
if he is a crying baby then france would be a good place for him!

My God this is a wierd day, I've even praised WJ and I wasn't taking the piss!

Hit the nail there Jesus, he needs to honour his contract for 2009, there may be conditions to the opt out clause as well. If the Force are happy to let him go that's a different thing, but it appears they're not and all this speculation is bullshit. I'd like to be able to come out in favour of him, but he's not said a whole lot and what he has been reported as actually saying don't look great.....I remember going in to bat for Scotty Fava and Brown Dog earlier this year....I remember suggesting that Matty Henjak was innocent until proven guilty.......I hope Gits doesn't make me eat my words by being a petulant little bitch!

eddie actually comes off well in this article cos he isnt talking about coaching.

i think 2.5 million a year is crap! if one player is worth that much and you have a squad of thirty, then how much revenue are you turning over to pay them? or are all these billionares just throwing money down a black hole?
