David Lyons ends a record 83-match unbroken run in Super Rugby

I know there are those who do not rate Lyons, but personally I feel he is still our best option at #8.
Regardless, he has been a true warrior for the Tahs over the years as no one plays 83 consecutive matches without playing through injuries and he has reportedly carried some pretty serious ones over the seven years.
Only bummer is he plans to make his comeback against us

Lyons to miss opening Super 14 matches

    Tuesday, January 9, 2007

Waratahs and Wallaby star David Lyons is to miss the opening three matches of this year's Super 14 campaign, ending a record 83-match unbroken run in Super rugby.

Lyons will be forced to sit out the matches following a post-Wallaby tour arthroscopy on his knee.

"David came back from the tour with a knee problem after the Ireland A game, played some more matches, had the procedure, then worked very hard on his rehabilitation," said head coach Ewen McKenzie.

"Unfortunately he developed a rare stress fracture complication.

"But in typical David Lyons fashion he's accepted the news and is focusing all his energies on a comeback in our first home game against the Force."

Until the setback Lyons had played Super rugby unbroken since his debut for the Waratahs in 2000.

"It's gone pretty fast," he said.

"It doesn't seem like seven years since I started but I guess I've been fortunate to have such a great run.

"Sure I'm disappointed but I'm looking at the next seven weeks as an opportunity to be in the best shape I can be given that it's a long year and there's a lot at stake."

Lyons (89 state caps) is still a chance to become only the third Waratah in history to reach 100 provincial caps if NSW reach the finals.
