Emirates Western Force Vice-captain David Pocock has completed a memorable 2010 with his marriage to fiancée Emma Palandri in Perth.
The happy couple, both 22, celebrated their union with 150 family and friends which included a number of Pocock’s Emirates Western Force and Wallabies team mates.
Richard Brown was a groomsman and also directed proceedings as the Master of Ceremonies while Nathan Sharpe, James O’Connor, Quade Cooper (including girlfriend Stephanie Rice) and Kurtley Beale were some of the big names to attend.
Pocock has had a massive year in terms of on-field accolades with the John Eales Medal, Wallabies People’s Choice Award and most recently the RUPA Medal for Excellence, but said he was entering unchartered territory.
“Well, you can't compare rugby to anything like this,” Pocock said.
“This is a lifetime commitment. The awards and everything this year have been great but this is something different altogether.”
The couple, who met at a community project at the start of last year, share a deep passion for helping those less fortunate and have teamed up on several projects including Pocock’s Eightytwenty Vision charity.
“We met at the start of last year. Emma was working with Jarrod McKenna on EPYC (Empowering Peacemakers in your Community) which is a non-violence program that runs in high schools. Jarrod invited me along to one of the workshops they conducted and I met Emma there,” Pocock said.
“Emma came to Zimbabwe on our trip (Eightytwenty Vision) this year and has a background in community and women’s studies so that has proved useful in dealing with a lot of the issues women are facing in the developing world.”
The couple will honeymoon in the South West of WA before Pocock returns to training with the Emirates Western Force on January 10.
