    Wallabies waiting on Elsom

    August 05, 2008

AUSTRALIA blindside flanker Rocky Elsom is unsure whether he will be fit to travel to South Africa for the two Tri-Nations Tests against the Springboks in Durban and Johannesburg this month.

Elsom sustained a foot injury in the Wallabies' 34-19 win against New Zealand in Sydney two weeks ago and missed Australia's 39-10 loss to the All Blacks in Auckland last Saturday.

A decision on Elsom is expected to be made next Tuesday, the day before the Wallabies reassemble for a two-day camp in Sydney before leaving for South Africa.

"I'd love to play, but I've never had this injury (ligament damage) before so I don't know the go," Elsom said. "I feel it is getting better, but it's hard to say. I'll have to wait and see."

“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White

That can be a bastard of an injury to get over. They can seem fully recovered and then as soon as the pressure is on it's straight back to square one. Fingers crossed for our main "mongrel".
