Haig Sare gets a shot at the left wing following Cameron Shepherd's withdrawalEmirates Western Force back Cameron Shepherd has been ruled out of tomorrow night’s Investec Super 14 clash with the Stormers in Cape Town after failing a fitness test on his injured left knee.
Shepherd suffered meniscus damage during last week’s narrow loss to the Bulls and was eventually ruled out of the crucial Week 13 clash at the team’s final training session at Newlands Stadium this morning (SA time).
Shepherd’s replacement on the left wing is Haig Sare, who will run on with the starting team for the first time since Week 2 and for just the third time in 2009.
Australian Under 20s fullback Dane Haylett-Petty has won the final bench position, filling the vacant number 22 jersey.
It is the first time since the opening week of the competition that the Hale School product has been named in the match 22, although he is yet to add to the three caps he earned in his rookie season of 2008.
