Man drives onto Subiaco Oval to pray
1st July 2008, 13:45 WST
A man resorted to desperate measures to resurrect the current state of WA football this morning when he drove his car onto Subiaco Oval and apparently began praying on the hallowed turf.
It is understood the man drove his car through Gate 7B about 10.30am, parked on the oval, got out of his vehicle and refused to communicate with security who asked him what he was doing.
He also took some photographs and repeated ‘no, no’ to himself.
Subiaco Oval general manager Shane Walsh told thewest.com.au that the man was able to drive onto the ground due to returfing work that was currently being done.
“It was just like he was one of the workers, we’ve got a few contractors around, and he just kept driving out there and then he pulled up near the centre and our operations manager went up to him and asked him what he was doing,” Mr Walsh said.
“He just kept saying ‘no, no’ over and over - you could tell he was pretty agitated.
“We got everyone away from him, we just didn’t want to upset him.”
Following police inquiries, no charges will be laid against the man, who was taken to hospital for assessment.
