RugbyWA wishes to announce the appointment of Mr. Greg Harris as Chief Executive Officer.
Greg comes to RugbyWA with experience across three football codes and has succeeded in a diverse range of professional appointments in sport and business.
Most notably, Greg held the position of Executive Director of Sydney University Sport from 1992 until recently.
In this position he was responsible for a multi-sport and multi-functional operation with a turnover of almost $20million per annum. Specifically the role included responsibility for sport development and operations, sponsorship, media, government liaison and facilities. Among his achievements was the $7million upgrade of the Sydney University Sports & Aquatic Centre.
Greg also has strong existing working relationships with many of RugbyWA’s key stakeholders.
In his early career, Greg taught economics and mathematics at Sydney Boys High and has a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Pure Mathematics at the University of Sydney.
A fleet-footed number 8 in his playing days, he played First Grade rugby for Sydney University between 1973 and 1977 and also represented Sydney.
RugbyWA Chairman, Geoff Stooke, welcomed Greg’s appointment as RugbyWA CEO.
“RugbyWA is delighted that a person of Greg’s experience and background in sport and business has accepted the role,” said Stooke.
“We see him as having the necessary skills and abilities to help take our organisation to its next stage of development and growth,” he said.
Mr. Harris said he is excited to join a rapidly progressing organisation.
“The RugbyWA CEO role was an exciting opportunity for me to build on a fantastic platform already established at RugbyWA,” said Mr. Harris.
“I hope to add significant value to the organisation in its future development.”
Mr. Harris said that it was RugbyWA’s holistic approach to business that appealed to him most.
“What’s really excited me is the manner in which RugbyWA has embraced the development of the game in Western Australia.
It is aware of its responsibilities in the development of the sport and is not solely focused on the pointy end of the business with the Emirates Western Force.”
Greg will commence in the role in late April.
