JULIAN Huxley says he's prepared to accept the risks involved in making a comeback to rugby but won't "waste people's time" if doctors don't give him a green light.
Huxley is so keen to resume his career he is gearing up to begin pre-season training later this month with the Brumbies while still undergoing chemotherapy, but will first consult specialists to gauge whether the dangers involved are too great.
The courageous World Cup Wallaby underwent surgery on a brain tumour after collapsing on the field playing for the ACT in March.
Huxley says he has recovered well from the operation and, after completing radiotherapy, is now in his second cycle of chemo.
And though he has a job lined up with the Brumbies next season as a kicking coach, Huxley's desire to return to the playing field burns strong.
"Hopefully we will track down and corner a few specialists in the next month or so, so we can really make a decision on whether it's safe enough to commit to it," Huxley said.
"If we make a decision it's not, I don't want to be wasting anyone's time down here trying to train with the boys. It is either all-in or nothing."

BOKKE“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White
I suppose in his mind if he can play again then he has beaten this tumour.
Really he should be grateful that he is looking at playing at all.
Why would you even consider going back to a high impact sport after having part of your brain removed.
He's not a forward.![]()

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
i think if he could come back he is a complete trooper and a true hero.
i wish him all the best and i for one hope he can come back and play, he would be such an inspiration to anyone else suffering cancer whether its benign or malignant.
Doubt very much they will let him play for a long long while - guessing they would have had to remove part of his skull to get at the growth and the regrowth/ strength required in that plate would be questionable.
Jeez your heart goes out to him - he really wants this - he has made an extraordinary recovery - not many people doing Chemo would consider pre-season training or anything remotely like it.
There was a beaut piece in the West today about the pre-season schedule that they have devised for the lads - not sure I'd walk the course never mind run it - you kinda get the impression that the strength and conditioning coach measures the success of the program by how much fertiliser the lads leave on the route.

61 years between Grand SlamsWas the wait worth it - Ya betta baby
It really depends on what drugs he's getting, I'd suspect very strongly he isn't on anything platinum based (they really knock you around) but some of the other agents aren't too bad. I would guess his experience has been helped by the good condition he started in. I know I would never have considered sport within two years of finishing chemo.
I'm with TQ1 though, the skull incision's going to be the big worry.

what an amazing person.
his commitment is so admirable. you can tell rugby is a massive part of his life and thats probably what got him through the treatment so quickly. i wish julian all the best and i truly hope you get out on the field again, but i hope he doesnt injure himself by rushing in too fast..
A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...
