You're right, it scared the crap out of them. Most soldiers who carried them ended up dead. They had to get very close to the enemy, the tanks didn't last long, they were one of the main targets, and very easy to spot.
I'd have to recommend to FT that he ditches the hand held one and makes himself one from a tank & trailer. It's much safer!
