Given the brief discussion with the IRB rankings in another thread here they are.
My question is can any of the 6 nations teams dislodge Australia from 3rd spot during the upcomming 6 nations? Wales would be the only side who could.....
1(1) NEW ZEALAND 92.68
2(2) SOUTH AFRICA 89.45
3(3) AUSTRALIA 85.86
4(4) ARGENTINA 81.56
5(5) WALES 81.03
6(6) ENGLAND 80.86
7(7) FRANCE 79.49
8(8) IRELAND 78.45
9(9) SCOTLAND 76.76
10(10) FIJI 75.24
11(11) ITALY 74.64
12(12) SAMOA 72.57
13(13) TONGA 70.05
14(14) GEORGIA 69.43
15(15) CANADA 69.12
16(16) JAPAN 68.05
17(17) ROMANIA 67.20
18(18) RUSSIA 64.63
19(19) USA 63.55
20(20) URUGUAY 62.78
I don't see anyone running the table; but supposing Wales were to, I still don't think it's enough to knock off Australia, the gap between #5 and #3 seems awfully wide..(but I'm not quite sure how the points system works??) As for England, France, and Ireland, I wouldn't expect anything more than taking Wales' spot at #5, at best, if they managed a series win..

Sorry Jargs, "great" minds I guess I was still working my way through the stats. Mine has the difference for the two years though so can probably stand alone on that type of discussion.
The answer to your question to my understanding of the system is no they can't as they are only swapping points amongst each other (with some minor H&A variations).

Nah thats cool
I just went to the IRB Rankings, not as detailed as yours, and as above only posted the top 20. I read the associated stories but didnt post them either
I didn't think they could, but obviously points gained off another opponant will still still help your total points. But having said that the Welsh need 4.9 points which should be too much. Argentina will be under the pump this year though to hold onto 4th you would think
We've had our burst of good wins for the next 20 years already now so we'll be slipping back to about 8,9 or 10 soon enough.
It's funny becasue it's true
But realisticly with the squad they have, the Rugby they play, Wales should start favourites.
Does that happen very often?
Only when they don't win it...

On paper we've got the form to win it. Duncan Jones can't even get a prop position anymore and he aint no slouch.
But in saying that and bloody Gatland runnning around spouting how the team has about 25% more improvement to come I am nervous about the upcoming games.
But when Wales play I am always nervous.
And not since the 60's or 70's when Wales were consistantly a great nation and the scrum was feared by all. How things have changed. But I live in hope along with my fellow 3 million country men and women.
