Deal considered close as United States tries to cash in on Bledisloe Cup fever
November 28, 2008
A BLEDISLOE Cup Test in Colorado looks a reality with American organisers declaring they are close to confirming the Australia-New Zealand clash.
The Metro Denver Sports Commission said they were confident of hosting a Trans-Tasman rugby union Test at the home of the Denver Broncos late next year.
Although rugby is a minor sport in the USA, Commission president KieAnn Brownell said Colorado had the union community and interest to sell out the 76,000-capacity regular NFL stadium.
"We're pretty close," Brownell told the Rocky Mountain News. "Our job is to get out of the box, to look for events that aren't necessarily on the country's radar.
"We think Colorado has a huge rugby population and a strong interest in the sport, and we fancy the idea of bringing rugby events to Denver and growing the community here."
The Denver Barbarians compete in the national Rugby Super League and the sport's national governing body, USA Rugby, is based at the nearby university city of Boulder.
A proposal to play the Test at Mile High Stadium was sent to the Australian and New Zealand Rugby Unions last month

is mile high stadium grass or astroturf?
Why would they play a game at Twickenham, the corrupt RFU would want a huge rental or large portion of tickets to go to their members. Wembley fo sho!
The old stadium was called Mile High which the new one is called Invesco Field. It has natural grass and the field is heated so that the grass can survive the harsh Denver winters. That would be very impressive if they sold out the 76,000 seats.
We'll have to ask TWF's own Renee that question.![]()
