Thorn suspended for up-ending Smit

New Zealand lock Brad Thorn has been handed a one-week ban for unsportsmanlike behaviour and will miss next weekend's Tri-Nations match against South Africa in Dunedin.
Thorn was cited after the All Blacks' 19-8 victory over the world champions in Wellington on Saturday, in which the 33-year-old picked up Springboks hooker John Smit in the sixth minute and dumped him on his back after a ruck.
The incident prompted a melee between both sets of forwards and Smit said after the game the tackle had caused a groin injury that grew progressively worse throughout the first half and forced the Springboks skipper off just before the interval.
