POWERFUL rugby union identity Tony Dempsey has resigned as chief executive of the code's players' association.
Dempsey was the architect of what has been described as the the best collective bargaining agreement for players in world rugby.
He held the position since 1995 when the code turned professional.
Dempsey will continue to act as a consultant for RUPA as the body renegotiates a new agreement with the Australian Rugby Union.
RUPA has engaged an employment recruitment agency to find his replacement with a view to filling the post by March.
