South Africa have beaten the New Zealand Sevens team 17-14 at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth to claim their home title.
With emotion at an all-time high following the death of former president Mandela on Friday it was the hosts who deservedly claimed the title.
New Zealand raced into an early 14-0 lead with tries to Scott Curry and Sherwin Stowers, but South Africa hit back via Branco du Preez before Tim Mikkelson was sin-binned.
On the brink of half-time du Preez claimed his second try as the hosts took advantage of the extra man.
It was one-way traffic in the second half with South Africa camped near the New Zealand line for long periods.
With under four minutes left Kyle Brown scored the decisive try after some poor tackling let him wriggle free.
The massive crowd rose to their feet as the clock ran out, and when du Preez cleared a free-kick to touch it was all over.
