The Road Safety Western Force have named their side for the opening match of the Super 20s Championship against the NSW Gen Blue U20s at Allianz Stadium in Sydney this Saturday, 25 February.
Head Coach Dwayne Nestor who recently led the Perth Spirit to their maiden Buildcorp National Rugby Championship title has selected a strong side with a mix of talented local players and a number of Future Force Foundation players.
Eight different local Pindan Premier Grade clubs are represented in the match day 23 with UWA boasting the strongest representation with six players selected, closely followed by Palmyra with five.
Among the Future Force Foundation players selected is Perth Spirit and Australian Under 20’s tighthead prop, Shambeckler Vui, who returns to the competition after a stellar campaign last season.
Partnering with Vui in the frontrow will be Joondalup’s Victor Harris at loosehead and Future Force Foundation hooker Sama Malola.
Australian Youth Sevens squad member Hendricus Van Der Hayden will link up with Future Force Foundation squad member Ben Grant to form a towering second row combination.
In the backrow, Brody Macaskill of Wests Scarborough and Palmyra product Evan Stafford will line up at blindside and openside respectively with Cottesloe’s Tevita Akolo rounding out the starting pack in the No.8 jersey.
It will be an all UWA halves combination with scrumhalf Rory O’Sullivan and flyhalf Anthony Hondros to direct the backline against what is sure to be a strong NSW Gen Blue defensive line.
Future Force Foundation pairing Jordan Holgate and Will Latu add size, strength and power to the midfield with Kalamunda’s Holgate to start at inside centre with Latu of Wanneroo on his outside.
Palmyra speedsters Matthew Lander and Trey Moloney will look to show their pace down the wings with Future Force Foundation member and UWA product Clay Uyen to captain the side from fullback.
The Road Safety Western Force U20’s will take on the NSW Gen Blue U20’s at 2:15PM AWST at Allianz Stadium on Saturday, 25 February with the match to be LIVE streamed on rugby.com.au .
