A win for the purists:
ONE of Australia's most loved sporting trophies made a shock return today - the six states will compete for the Sheffield Shield again after a 10-year break.
Cricket Australia today formally announced the Sheffield Shield would return as the prize to be fought over by the six states during the domestic first-class summer after an absence of nine years, during which the competition was known as the Pura Cup.

Best thing to happen to Domestic Cricket in a decade, definately better then the invention of hit and giggle cricket. Hardly a shock mind you, it was first reported months ago. Shame WA are technically the holders of the shield. Don't worry that will be rectified by next March when the reigning First Class Cricket champions re-claim the shield

They should never have tossed 107 years of tradition in the bin for a bloody dairy sponsorship in the first place. It just wasn't cricket.

Cricket Australia decided to have all the Domestic Cricket comp under the one sponsor and Pura Milk decided not to continue their sponsorship

I'm so happy about this. My brother from the UK and I held the Shield for a photo over at the Townsville Show, it was propped up on a couple of chairs. Then it had a makeover and was displayed in the Cricket Exhibition that was on in the Museum when the Ashes were being played. My brother will be stoked when I tell him.![]()
