Jonny Wilkinson turns to Buddha and turns his back on England
November 21, 2008
ENGLAND'S injury-plagued World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson has confirmed that a return to the national team is no longer high on his list of priorities.
The 29-year-old, who was ruled out of the European autumn internationals with a dislocated knee, has looked for help in Buddhism and believes his new spiritual outlook has given him a different perspective on his life and career.
"If I wanted to play for England I could maybe get back in there like I did before, and I could hang in there for a bit and not really enjoy myself," he told the BBC.
"I could squeeze through a few games and spend the end of the week slumming into my pillow and (trying to) find a way to get through, not get much sleep and work towards the next one, finish my career and work out what to do with myself.
"Or I can have a fantastic time, with whichever team I'm with, trying to help them get better, and let the best of me come out."
He added: "The key for me is going out there and playing without fear and being the best I can be.
"If I'm being the best I can be, there is nothing else. It's irrelevant being an England player or not."

poor bugger, ankle ruined a long career
Chuck Norris has the greatest Poker-Face of all time. He won the 1983 World Series of Poker, despite holding only a Joker, a Get out of Jail Free Monopoly card, a 2 of clubs, 7 of spades and a green #4 card from the game Uno.
Yeah read the title and thought - Heh ho he's hoping for a miracle
61 years between Grand SlamsWas the wait worth it - Ya betta baby
He's 29 and won Bill in 2003... you can only be called a champ if you won a championship, and Jonny got his...He should move on while he can still walk. An outstanding sportsman he could be an terrific ambassador for the IRB and world rugby...and English rugby. That drop goal in extra time RWC final still hurts....
hello look who else is in shot, the man of the moment himself Al Baxter...
Had a sudden vision of him adding a tummy rub to his pre-kick routine...
What are the vBookie odds on him 'writing' another shitty book about how Buddhism has helped him through the difficult time. Maybe he can shelve it with his other 4 shitty books
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
