This was a big pain in the butt for me...the warranty was for one year on my i-pod and it crapped out after 13 months...paid some $$$$ for a new battery to be put in...worked for one week...then NOTHING
A similar thing happened to my brother's and a few of my friends...yet other friends had no problem what-so-ever...guess its just the luck of the draw...i've heard that the i-river is spos'd to be pretty good???
The only negative about the Apple for me is that when it breaks down, mine wouldn't charge after a few months, you have to take it to an Apple repair centre, you can't just take it to JB's HiFi etc and have it replaced.....not that it would be an issue for you out there I guess.
When this happened to mine the Apple shops had moved all over the place and I eneded up spendinga full morning driving around Perth to different Apple places until one would take it.

I'm with GIGS20 .. go for an iRiver .. just as many features as an iPod but it doesn't have any of the restirctions that comes with it (or iTunes for that matter) !

Yep, iRiver for me to. Got a 4GB with about 900 songs on it. Plenty of space for for old time punk and metal.
