    Adopt - a -prop

As a simple Rugby Union fan all I want to do is see a game of Rugby, preferably here in Perth!

Any way I think to take the burden of the poor cash strapped unions, we should form syndicates and adopt - a - prop, hooker, lock, flanker, 8, half, stand off, centre, wing or fullback.

I know I'm being simplistic, but we could go someway to alleviating the financial burden imposed on the competition organisers and truly make it a competition for the fans.

    Let us surmise:

    A player costs $20,000.
5,000 spectators turned up to games on average.
Some were TWF members for instance.
Let us say we at TWF formed the A.J.Whalley syndicate.
    100 TWF members all put $200 each - 100 x $200 = $20,000.
Now I realise there would have to 28 syndicates and these would produce $560,000!
Rugby clubs, businesses, supporter groups, groups of individuals could all be the syndicates and sponsor a squad member
Enough to cover a large part of the cost for that team.

This is just an example and may not suit every bodies budget.

Once the ARU cook up their new national competition - we could already have the team belonging to the fans of WA up and running!?!?!
There's probably a lot of things wrong with the idea and I don't suppose for one moment the Eastern states would go for it!

Good idea No8, I like it.

Just on syndicates though, I am pretty sure you are only allowed a maximum of about 32 members in a syndicate.

delete word Syndicate - add word stakeholders.

    I have had a further thought -
    1 through15 - $200/person x 100 = $20,000 = $300,000
    16 through 22 - $100/person x 100 = $10,000 = $80,000
    23 through 28 - $50/person x 100 = $5,000 = $25,000

    Total = $405,000.

A little shy of the $4.2m loss, but the Perth would have been worth $420,000.
    This almost covers it!
Maybe ET Mining can make up the rest?

I heard that they came pretty close to breaking even - will remember where I read that and post it- Geoff Stooke is pretty hot on that - he said something recently about RugbyWA not wanting handouts.
It is definitely part of O'Meara's legacy that unlike the Tahs and the Reds the Force made a profit - the Brumbies only just managed to do a little better than break even. During Quokkagate O'Meara was renegotiating with the Emirates for a further 3 years.

Interesting that Perth and Canberra made money (OK canberra couldn't afford a beer with what they made but...) and NSW and QLD lost money. Could it be the multiple team thing that was the issue (deliberately ignoring Melbourne...with no infrastructure there they were always going to run at a loss)

Maybe we should sell this idea to Qld.......bugger NSW they've got too much power as it is.

Obviously totally left field (expect no less from #8 ) but it may work.
We discussed late last year the Soccer Club in England being "bought" by fans.
