The Government says it will seek funding from the Commonwealth, business and the sporting codes to help build the stadium.

So, does that mean we can refuse if they don't meet our requirements?

It sounds like we don't have to pay if we don't want to..........of course we pay to play there, and Subiaco oval will be torn down once Kitchener Park is built...There's a nice public open space near my house that might do!

The Government will bid for the 2018 Soccer World Cup with the new stadium as the proposed venue.

There is no way on God's green earth they will get a soccer World cup without a stadium which is suitable for Rugby and Football! Sounds like the chairman of the relative codes had better talk to Mr Carpenter before he blows a billino dollars worth of our taxes out his Pasty airtight a$$

and this entire situation is competley F**KED!
at the end of the day we were promised a DEDICATED RECTANGULAR stadium. which was one of the main reasons we got the 4th australian super rugby team.
why is our government so incapable of comming through with this promise. yet they can give the AFL PRIORITY in a new stadium that every code who needs a rectangular stadium wont be happy with when they alreday have a stadium they can do whatever they want with.
fremantle is not in debt with the afl, and i really dont see how the eagles can be concidering there what 18 years old?
leave them at subi! if they decide that the facilities there are that shit LET THEM DIP INTO THEIR OWN POCKETS AND PAY FOR IT!
or they might be able to persuade the AFL to help them pay for it.

Thanks to McGuity the govt jumped in to make the announcement earlier than planned in a bid to deflect some of the extraordinary heat its been getting over the Neale Fong shenanigans.

The govt simply recognises that it would be in its best interests to go for one stadium rather than spend $$ on two and get a serious public hiding for not spending the $$ on other (more) important community projects such as health and education (as well as teachers', nurses' and police pay issues).

Its politics and unfortunately for poor old us the bloody government doesn't think we are worth the votes.

wow! That is HUGE news!!!

But this means we have 6 more years of rugby watching at subi oval.

Any news on the shape of the stadium? Rectangle? Round? Multi purpose?

Of course it MUST be oval to cater for cross country netball. The plan is to have detachable stands along the sidelines for rectangular field sports.

None of this is really the slightest use to the Force. Firstly, it is not clear whether the detachable stands will even be used for Force games, but might be reserved for signature events such as Springbok and (hopefully) All Black tests.

Secondly, all that it means is that a few thousand people will get a view close to the sidelines, but it still won't be much of a view because they'll also be low down. Everyone else, including your humble scribes stuck up close to the orbit of Pluto in the press box, will need astronomy-strength telescopes to observe action on the far touch line.

Personally, I'm not the slightest bit interested in whatever magnificent edifice they want to construct. At some 60,000 seats it will swallow the 20,000 Force crowd and kill any atmosphere at the game. The only time it's ever likely to be of use to rugby is if we score a Bledisloe Cup game.

I clearly remember standing in Rugby WA HQ during the launch of the Force and hearing Alan Carpenter (then Sport and Rec minister) solemnly declaring how committed the state government was to rebuilding Members Equity to accommodate 24,000 and field all the coporate facilities needed for the big spenders our game attracts. And THAT is exactly what the Force really needs.
