Me too, absolutely...A full stadium at all matches would still be better than a three quarters full subiaco in atmosphere...And there is room to grow...Gotta start somewhere...

Amen to that, compared to what we've got now - SFA.

The 2011 RWC in NZ ? The semi-finals and final will be held at Eden Park comprising temporary stands on 3 sides of the pitch. Only one side is being upgraded permanently with the majority of the 60,00 capacity provided by the "temporary stands".

The quality of temporary stadium seating these days is very very good - it's not a bunch of planks on scaffolding. A "temporary" stadium for 25k at MES comprising that quality of seating and cover would be far superior to anything the current subi oval can provide for rugby.

Most of all it would show all that there is a sustainable support for Rugby in Perth and that its not going to go the way of the Western Reds some years back. Even though that sort of downfall is what all the gAyFL people want to happen so they can have the new stadium all to themselves.

As for nine years to build - that's complete bo$$ocks. The taskforce report forecast five years based on their detailed studies and I'm damn sure Carps the Corrupt doesn't know any better about planning for major infrastructure. But all the procrastination and delay just help his gAyFL mates.

Stop beating around the bush and tell us what you really think.

    Good post

Further to Blackswan's point about temp seating; do we have any civil engineering types here that can give us an expert view of whether this is a practical option for MES?

I'm not a civil engineer, but I look at the stand on the eastern and southern side of MES and say that's temporary seating, It's all scaffolded isn't it?

I'm not sure how you'd go with multiple tiers in temporary stands, but I'm pretty sure you could get a heap of seats in before you went scaffold anyway. The question is more about what to do for the big money patrons...Corporate facilities apparently are a bit third world at MES (Can't say for sue, never been invited to a corporate box anywhere for anything......anybody?......I'll be quiet!)

Temporary corporate boxes in temporary stands? Corporate types are catered for in "hi-tech" marquees at the major race carnivals but there they seem happy to watch the races on monitors.

I dunno either. I've had a Google for temporary stands and there's a few companies that specialise in it. Just wondered if it is possible to squeeze 25k in there by using some of their systems. Maybe by going higher in the area to the south of the old grandstand or converting the northern end to a seated area like this...

....with some temp standing higher behind that. Not ideal but better than the Subi stratosphere.

Here's an interesting take on the stadium issue from "Backwater", SA.

Basically in todays Sunday Mail, the FFA has given both AAMI stadium and Adelaide Oval a red card in regards to holding world cup soccer matches. The reason why this is relevant to the plans in Perth for the new stadium at Kitchener Park is there is a 1/2 page photo of it on page 11 with the caption "What Perth has and Adelaide needs".

The liberal leader here in SA, has come out over the past week and said that Adelaide needs a world class stadium near the city, similar to what has just been outlined for Perth. This proposal has caught the attention ofthe ARU, who are thought to be considering playing tests in Adelaide if there was a suitable venue.

Of course, the primary tenants would be afl, with soccer also showing an interest.

Welcome to "Back to the Future - Part 4" - the SA version.

We have only dropped below 25000 a game 3 times and that's at Subi.

Who wants to give up their seat if we move to a rectangular MES????

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

The only reason MES has never sold out for a game of Rugby is due to the fact that no actual Super 14 game, only pre-season and ARC (now canned). The ARC wasn't very well advertised and neither was the pre-season game this year (i don't rememeber how well the pre-season game last year against Samoa was advertised). The weather didnt help on Thursday night thats for sure. MES would be a sell out for sure based on the attendence figures in Flamethrowers (provided by Burgs) post.

Yeah, the family stand at the southern end of the ground and the stand that the scoreboard is apart of is basicly scaffolding. It was done like that when the ground got upgraded into a small purpose built rectangular ground about 5 years ago (for the Glory). I'm pretty sure that eventualy the ground owners (Allia Holdings) wanted to upgrade it, put in permanent stands with larger capicity.

I'd take that as well, being a member but also i'd like plans to be there to expand the gorund and the room to do it. Possibly and hopefull to maybe 35,000 to 40,000 down the track eventually

If it held 25,000 and filled up every game then it would eventually have to be upgraded further, at least we have a foot in the door...And there is always foxtel and the pub for those who cannot get in...at least in the short term...I reckon it is worth the sacrifices for long term gain...

Exactly my point Fridge...Look after the members, allow as many walk ups as you can in the first instance and just keep adding seats until the balance is right...with a longer term view, it might well be a great way to grow the support of rugby in this state, Imagine how it'd look on the telly every week to see RubyWA advertising "Sorry folks, the home game this week has sold out, but don't worry we're petitioning the government to help us add seating to the oval so very Rugby supporter can watch their team play....if you want to watch a game, there's plenty of seats at the AFL"

If you read the original report by the premier, you'll see that it is in fact not 9years. The stadium will be completed in 2016, but it will be ready to host Football, rugby, soccer etc by 2014.
It's still a long wait, but it's better than 9years.
I recon they should get the construction companies from U.A.E
For the Dubai 7's they constructed a temp stadium out of nothing, in the space of 3months.
