My dad who is O+ (not that rare, but still always low since O is universal donar) was told many a year ago that they'd never be desperate enough for him to donate again, since it's really hard to get even a test tube out of him, let alone a whole bag of the gear.

And I'm a hundred times worse- the pathology collector people always look at me funny- they assume my veins are so crap cos I'm a druggie or something (I know, I really look like it huh?) So when the blood bank's so desperate they'll start tapping people's feet for donations, let me know (yep, this happened- first day I started work in China, dehydrated coming off a plane, that was the only place they could get).

In the meantime, I'll just have to hoping showing up to charity quiz nights is keeping my karmic ledger in positive territory.

It "really doesn't hurt"....

It does when they have to jab your arm 3 or 4 times to find a vein, and when they can't, move to the back of the hand, and then if everyone looks down the line of the thumb, there's a little vaguely visible vein on the bone....

That hurts



Also, I'll never get used to needles because I've seen one rupture a vein in a rabbit's ear because a bunny kicked while having blood taken.

Same, definately not trying to discourage anyone, or assauge my own guilt for never doing it, but it's a world of pain for all concerned when people want to get a bit of the Swee claret.

Me neither Jargs and they told me I would have to pay if I wanted to find out, unless I was really sick then I could find out as part of a blood test

Join the resources industry- you have to do so many medical tests and stuff along the way they're sure to test it- Thats how I found out!


Course then you have to work in resources, that would be the down side of the plan.

It really p*sses me off when they run the adverts saying that they're short of blood & donors but there's a whole load who grew up in the UK who are ineligible due to some mad notion that we're all a bunch of mad cows!!!

For the record, I'm B rhesus negative which is quite rare, I believe.

I am also a mad cow And I'm a special B rhesus negative mad cow as well....awesome.

I honestly do understand that some people can't give blood for either reasons involving geography during certain time period or a crippling fear of needles.

My point was just if that someone out there is able to give blood and has just hasn't gotten around to it like I hadn't... then please don't put it off anymore.

If you can do it... do it... if you can't, I'll donate enough for us.

to give myself a viable excuse i'll get a tattoo every year. so they wont let me donate,
and yes i do realise this is a contradiction to having a fear of needles.

To many tattoos and old man was 1 of 10 first back on Xmas Island after the pom's did H-Bomb testing in the early sixty's. I'm contaminated!!!!
