Storm accepts apology over 'cry-gate' - New Zealand's source for oddstuff - strange, weird & bizarre news on Stuff.co.nz

North Queensland rugby league boss Peter Parr has ensured Big Girls Don't Cry will never be heard at Dairy Farmers Stadium again.

The Cowboys came under fire for playing the song when Melbourne star Billy Slater was left nursing a potentially serious eye injury in Townsville last Saturday night.

Parr said he made it "crystal clear" with the game day co-ordinator the song should be filed away indefinitely.

"The people responsible for playing the song are crystal clear on my thoughts," he said.

"I told them never to do it again. I've left it at that.

"It was inappropriate, I wasn't happy with it.

"The game day producer was very apologetic and assures me it won't happen again."

Parr said the game day co-ordinator's apology had been accepted by Melbourne Storm boss Brian Waldron.

"Our game day co-ordinator has been producing game day here for the last eight years and I would argue that we've got one of if not the best game day in the NRL," he said.

"I have accepted his apology and passed that on to the Melbourne Storm through Brian Waldron.

Former test five-eighth and Nine Network commentator Matthew Johns said playing the song was "most definitely in poor taste".

Slater, who was born and bred in Innisfail north of Townsville, was accidentally hit in the eye by Cowboys halfback Johnathan Thurston and spent the second half of the match icing the right side of his face on the bench.

He has since been cleared of serious injury.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

What about the footage of Brent Staker crying on the bench after Barry Hall objected most strenuously to the attention he was receiving from the Eagles defender?

AFL players cry all the time I'd suspect...
