FOUR WESTERN AUSTRALIANS NAMED IN NATIONAL U20 SQUAD

Four WA-based players have been selected to represent Australia in the U20 iRB Junior World Championships in June.

Dane Haylett-Petty, Tom Murday, David Pocock and Sam Wykes have been named in the 26-man squad that will travel to Wales.

Haylett-Petty, Pocock and Wykes are members of the Emirates Western Force squad, with 18-year old winger Haylett-Petty making his Super Rugby debut in the 22-21 win over the Chiefs at Subiaco Oval on Saturday.

Haylett-Petty also captained the WA Schools side in 2007, and was named in the Australia A Schools team that played the England U18s.

Pocock, a flanker originally from Zimbabwe, made his debut for the Emirates Western Force in the final round of the 2006 season and has 23 caps under his belt. He also represented Australia A during the 2007 Pacific Nations Cup.

Wykes, 20, was a member of the U19 Australian squad in both 2006 and 2007, and has registered seven Super Rugby caps in 2008.

Murday is a member of the Firepower RugbyWA Academy, having come to WA as a triallist at the start of 2007. Originally from Port Douglas in Queensland, Murday is a blindside flanker who can also play lock.

Teenage sensation James O’Connor is not eligible for inclusion in the U20s squad due to an iRB regulation that states players must not be born after December 31, 1989 to compete in the tournament. O’Connor was born in July 1990.

I wonder why last year's captain Brett Gillespie isn't in the squad? I hear you Burgs but next best thing is last year's vice-captain which would be Sam Wykes.

Does Murday play in the local comp? For whom? I know not of this man - at least not by name. I imagine I've seen him play if he is in the local comp....

    Anyone?

I am almost certain Murday plays for Uni. A friend told me he goes to (or went to) St. George's college (the big castle near UWA) which would make sense him playing for Uni. His inclusion in the U20 World Cup is great because he's a lock/6 and with Fardy being released he could move into that vacant apprenticeship.
