Alot of players are drinking creatine in the final 30mins before they run on and it definately gets you buzzing! as for using it in gym it is unreal! I know that the force boys all get a test done on their 1st day back after the xmas break and as far as I know everyone is clean as. You would have to be a complete idiot to be doing drugs, especially if you are a professional sportsman

Absolutely not. It is completely legitimate and safe, and should be maintained as an acceptable substance for use.

There are a variety of reasons for which drugs/substances fall into the banned substance list which do not solely relate to physiological enhancement (the most common characteristic people seem to look for); inclusive of obvious (or prospective) health risks.

    Substances Banned
o Anabolic Agents, Hormones, Beta-2 Agonists, Anti-oestrogenic Activity
o Diuretics, Stimulants, Narcotics, Cannabinoids, Glucocorticosteriods

    Methods Banned
o Enhancement of Oxygen Transport, Chemical and Physical manipulation, Gene Doping

    Partial Bans (some sports)
    o Alcohol, Beta-Blockers

Any sport which appropriately regulates substance use (in order to ensure a drug free competition remains) will recognise a certain exemption to people who require any of the above substances (or methods) in relation to medical conditions (or injury repair).. this being known as a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE)

The Australian Institute of Sport has a supplementation centre (within its Nutrition section), that specifically discusses the validity of substances currently accepted by national and olympic standards. It also lists substances which are banned (or under investigation). A link that is worthwhile if you're an athlete considering additional assistance in your training goals.

    Absolutely.

I often become defensive when the drug issue is discussed, because the mere mention of the word seems to allow people to associate misuse with the sport. For example, some casual visitors to this forum may now start to doubt the legitimacy of athletes within local Rugby, for which I think is both unfair and unreasonable to the current clubs and their constituents.

However, it never hurts to have a testing procedure in place. It would, of course, require the full support and management by RugbyWA.

I don't see a problem with drug testing as long as it is done properly... Drugs are the devils candy!!!

For all the sports out there , I think one of the events which bans alcohol is actually Chess..... (insane, I know).

back to the topic, i suppose its hard where to draw the line on drugs and supplements, i mean in a realistic sense creatine is not much different to protein, but then again there isnt much difference between protein and analbolic steroids..

I suppose the major difference is that steroids have bad side effects, where as protein and creatine dont really have any bad side effects(proven yet anyway).

But the reasoning for banning steroids is because it may give some athletes a unfair advantage, well how is that any different to a player taking creatine or protein..
