Pratt stands aside as Carlton president

Billionaire cardboard king Richard Pratt has stood aside as Carlton Football Club president after being charged with lying to the competition watchdog, the club says.

Vice-president Stephen Kernahan will step into the role of president, Carlton chief executive Greg Swann told a press conference on Friday.

The move follows the laying of charges against Pratt by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission for allegedly providing false or misleading evidence in the course of an investigation.

Billionaire Richard Pratt has stood down as Carlton President, after being charged over lying about his knowledge of a price fixing scandal.

Carlton CEO Greg Swann made the announcement at a hastily called press conference a short time ago, with Blues’ legend Stephen Kernahan to replace Pratt. .

The Visy boss, who took the reins of Carlton in February last year, was charged yesterday with giving false and misleading evidence to an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) hearing in 2005.

Former Carlton President John Elliott has jumped to the defence of his long time friend and current Blues President, billionaire Richard Pratt, amid confirmation the cardboard king has been charged over lying about his knowledge of a price fixing scandal.

The Visy boss, who took the reins of Carlton in February last year, was charged on summons on Thursday with giving false and misleading evidence to an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) hearing in 2005.
