A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...

Apparently - something to do with it being too dangerous if the crowd surges

amazing what one can do with an endless supply of cheap labour.

btw pieman this week is talking of SFS upping it's capacity to 50-55k, nice.

The idea sounds a good one, but for the most part, that kind of capacity would only be required for smaller test match crowds, NRL semis, and presumably some football matches (I have no idea how crowds compare for A-League finals, friendlies, qualifiers etc)

Only problem there is the ARU are locking into playing ALL tests out in the middle of nowhere (oops, I mean ANZ) until 2011, no doubts the NRL and other teams have similar obligations.
For followers of football, given the odd bit of gossip about the 2018 FIFA world cup bid, would a pool game (not involving Aus) be more suited to that kind of stadium, or would they likely still fill out the Olympic stadium?

they would pack that stadium swee. The hordes of foriegn supporters descending on Australia for such a tournament will be phenomenal (espeacially if England make it)

the ARU deal as you said is only till 2011, 3 years to plan, approve and actually build the upgrade sounds about right.

FIFA has very strict standards or the quality of stadia for world cups.

Essentially only ANZ would qualify as a world cup venue for an Aussie bid

Check out this new stadium that the Cowboys are building. The 60 yard video screen looks awesome for replays.
