Cowan told: Stop boozing or you’re out

All Blacks scrum-half Jimmy Cowan has been ordered to stop drinking alcohol or face the sack after attending a New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) misconduct hearing.

Cowan was summoned to appear after being arrested twice in the last two months for disorder offences following drinking binges.

He was fined $A2400 by the NZRU and ordered to undergo counselling but was allowed to stay in the squad on the condition that he gives up alcohol.

FA, it's the NZRU's perogative to do what it thinks is right, just as it was the ARU/Rugby WA's in teh Henjak case, media and community pressure not withstanding- hope this one doesn't turn out badly for them.

And Cowan didn't punch his team-mate out/play for the Force.

On a side note, has anyone seen booze stores down south in NZ, no wonder there is a binge drinking problem.

I dunno, they have huge plastic casks that you fill your own bottle up with at the bottle store....I don't remember how much it is a litre but it was dirt cheap from memory. Plus Otago is so cold you've got to be half pissed just to not get hypothermia.
